Chapter 10

Our Never-Ending Day

Rude Awakening: If this is the city that never sleeps, then why am I so tired? I never imagined life in New York could be this much fun. I also never knew power-shopping could be this much work.

It is now exactly 5:20. Wow I am wiped.

I just loved walking down the street with Aunt Mimi. She knows ALL about ALL the buildings in NY. She was like a tour guide the way she could point to any old skyscraper or apartment or embassy and tell us when it was built and what style architecture it was. It’s not like I understood about architecture or anything, but I loved hearing her talk. I always thought I was a real New Yorker, but I don’t know that stuff. Aunt Mimi is the real New Yorker.

The Natural History museum is huge. I wished we could have seen the dinosaurs inside the main part of the museum, but the Rose Center for Earth and Space was enough for today. We walked and walked on this one ramp called the Cosmic Pathway trying to get away from these cute guys who kept following us. We ducked into the Big Dipper Café and then finally ditched them at the gift shop where (it must be noted) I bought myself a cool foil sticker of Mars for my flute case. I also got two super-bouncy balls: one that looks like the moon and another one that looks like Earth.

The walking display was the COOLEST. Just one step covered something like 75 million years of evolution. I couldn’t believe that humans were only one teeny, teeny mark at the end of the timeline. We’re like nothing compared to the time before we existed. I need to pay more attention in Mr. Danehy’s science class when he starts talking about the planets and space, right? Right!!!
